Day 36

After a night of hospitality 'Sea Paddling' style we were up this morning at 7 a.m. and back in Dunmore East and on the water for 9.20 a.m. Thanks again to Mick, Brian and Dermot for a great night. We paddled out the Waterford Estuary from Dunmore East and we knew immediately that conditions were not ideal. Given that this was our last day on the water we decided to persevere to try and get home to see everyone in Dungarvan. We rounded Brownstown Head and crossed Tramore Bay, all the while conditions worsened. After 15 miles on the water we decided that the risk of continuing was too great so we pulled into Boatstrand Pier. We thought if we waited out the weather it might get calmer but once it reached 5 p.m. we knew we wouldn't have enough daylight to get home. So reluctantly we made the call home to tell everyone we wouldn't make it. All of our families drove down from Dungarvan to see us so it was great to see everyone again after such a long time away. Thanks to Siobhan for the hot soup and rolls and to Nana G for the tart. Our plan is to settle down for the night and get up early in the morning and make the journey home to Dungarvan, hoping to be back at the Lookout by approx 6.15 p.m. We should have a more exact idea of the time once we see the weather conditions in the morning and will update the blog over the course of the day tomorrow. 15 miles today, 4 hours and 30 minutes on the water.... Hopefully we will see you all tomorrow.
